How to choose the right socks for yourself based on fabric

2024-10-22

Feet tend to sweat easily during exercise. If socks do not absorb sweat, feet will become sticky and uncomfortable. As a result, socks become dry, but feet become wet and smelly, which becomes the best breeding ground for bacteria. If you want to keep your feet dry, the material selection ofsocks becomes very important. Moisture absorption and perspiration are the key points. If they can also be antibacterial, it will be better.

So, in terms of fabric, are pure cotton socks the best?

1. Cotton

For socks, cotton is the most mainstream fabric. Generally speaking, the better the cotton yarn used, the more comfortable the socks will be.

But pure cotton socks are not necessarily really good! Because natural cotton yarn has poor elasticity, if you want socks to be comfortable and fit and have good weather resistance, it is very necessary to blend a certain proportion of polyester fibers (such as spandex).

It is a misunderstanding to mark socks as 100% cotton: socks cannot be 100% cotton. Some spandex must be added to the socks to make them elastic, but the cotton fibers in the socks account for the vast majority.

According to national regulations, cotton socks with a cotton content of 60% can be called pure cotton socks. Cotton content of 95% can be called 100% cotton. The socks that claim to have a cotton content of 100% in specialty stores are those with a cotton content of more than 90%.

2. Wool

Wool is another common material, characterized by excellent warmth retention, but relatively expensive, and difficult to dry after getting wet.

It is generally not used at work, and is generally used as Home Socks, suitable for the winter climate in the south.

3. Polyester

Polyester fibers, such as nylon, spandex, polyester, etc., are characterized by good elasticity, but poor sweat absorption, and some produce odor. Therefore, it is not recommended to wear socks woven with a high proportion of polyester fibers (except for Silk Stockings, because there is no better way).

However, a certain proportion (such as 5%-10%) of polyester fiber blending is necessary in cotton or wool. Generally speaking, socks blended with spandex/lycra will have better quality.

4. Modal

A very popular textile fiber in recent years, belonging to the viscose category. Developed by Lenzing, it is made from European beech wood through pulping and spinning.

Fabrics processed with modal fiber and spun with cotton and polyester have a silky luster, good drape, soft and smooth feel. Adding modal to the ingredients of socks can make the socks feel softer and more comfortable. It is also a very popular textile in recent years, but its sweat absorption ability is relatively weak.

5. Other common materials

For example, silk and bamboo fibers are smooth and shiny, but have poor wear resistance; some high-tech fabric fibers developed specifically for sports scenes may have better sweat conduction performance; and some merchants promote various unheard-of fibers, which are not necessarily useless, but often the marketing component is greater than the product itself.

Casual concept socks

The tissue contains 32% cotton, 42% polyester fiber, 24% lycra and other organic materials, with good sweat absorption and breathability, comfortable to wear;

According to different sports forms, different positions are designed for protection, support, wear resistance, and breathability:

Three-dimensional "X" support for the arch, like a safety belt fastening the sole of the foot Fascia can buffer the impact of body weight and ensure blood circulation in the feet;

The "Y" heel completely covers the heel to prevent sliding during exercise, so that the socks fit every inch of the heel;

The bottom of the socks adopts a breathable mesh ventilation flow design, which allows sweat to evaporate better, keeps the feet continuously breathable, and avoids odor accumulation;

The left and right foot versions are designed according to ergonomics, with perfect wrapping, allowing the feet to experience the best comfort;
