How to choose socks, the material is actually very important

2024-09-20

In daily life, we may be too busy to ignore many details in life.

For example, have you ever noticed whether your socksare suitable for you and whether they are comfortable to wear?

Today, I will share with you what kind of socks are good.

For the sake of our health, what kind of socks should we buy!

[Cotton] Usually we like to choose to wear pure cotton socks.

Cotton has hygroscopicity, moisture retention, heat resistance, alkali resistance, and hygiene.

It has no irritation or negative effects when in contact with the skin.

It is beneficial and harmless to the human body when worn for a long time, and has good hygiene performance.

However, is pure cotton 100% cotton?

The answer of sock experts is no.

If a pair of socks is 100% cotton,

then this pair of socks is cotton! There is no elasticity at all!

100% cotton socks have a particularly high shrinkage rate and are not durable.

Usually, socks with a cotton content of more than 75% can be called pure cotton socks.

Generally, socks with a cotton content of 85% are very high-end cotton socks.

Cotton socks also need to add some functional fibers

to maintain the elasticity, fastness and comfort of the socks.

Spandex, nylon, acrylic, polyester, etc. are very common functional fibers.

[Combed cotton] Combed cotton is a long and neat cotton fiber left after removing the shorter fibers from ordinary fibers using a machine called a comber.

Due to the removal of short cotton fibers and other fiber impurities,

the cotton yarn spun from combed cotton is more delicate,

and the feel of the finished product is also smoother and more comfortable, which is of better quality among cotton.

Combed cotton is more resilient and not easy to pilling.

Combed cotton yarn is smoother and flatter, the surface of the fabric is flat, and there are no cotton knots.

The dyeing effect is also good.

[Mercerized cotton] Mercerized cotton is a cotton fiber that has been treated with a mercerization process in a concentrated alkali solution

by ordinary cotton fibers.

Under the premise that other physical indicators and properties do not change, this kind of cotton fiber has better gloss than ordinary cotton fiber, is more shiny, feels smoother, and is less prone to wrinkles, and has the characteristics of cotton's own sweat absorption, which is refreshing and breathable when worn. Mercerized cotton can usually be seen in Thin Socks in summer. [Bamboo fiber] Bamboo fiber is the fifth largest natural fiber after cotton, linen, wool and silk. Bamboo fiber has good air permeability, instant water absorption, strong wear resistance and good dyeing properties, and has natural antibacterial, antibacterial, mite removal, deodorization and UV resistance. [Spandex] Spandex is commonly known as elastic fiber, which has high elasticity and strong elasticity. Its stretched length can reach 5-7 times that of the original fiber. Textile products with spandex added can maintain the original outline. Socks must contain spandex to make them elastic and retractable,

making them easier to wear and more comfortable to the feet,

just like a swimsuit that can wrap tightly around the feet and prevent slipping off.

[Modal] Modal has a silky luster, good drape, and a soft and smooth feel.

[Wood Pulp Fiber] Wood pulp fiber has a fine unit fineness and a very soft feel; good color fastness and bright colors;

Good drape, soft and smooth without piercing the body, softer than cotton, with a unique silky feel.

Due to the natural antibacterial function of wood fiber products,

therefore, the products made do not need to add any artificial antibacterial agents,

and will not cause skin allergies.

It has extremely strong water absorption and oil removal and decontamination capabilities.

In particular, its water absorption and air permeability are better than traditional cotton fabrics and other plant fibers.

[Tencel] Tencel fiber fabrics have good moisture absorption, comfort,

Drape and stiffness and good dyeability.

In addition, it can be blended with cotton, wool, linen, acrylic, polyester, etc.

It can be ring-spun, air-spun, and core-spun to spin various cotton and wool yarns, core-spun yarns, etc.

[Wool] Mainly composed of an insoluble protein, it has good elasticity and a full feel.

It has strong moisture absorption capacity, good warmth retention, is not easy to get dirty, has a soft luster, and has excellent dyeability.

Because it has a unique shrinkage property,

it generally needs to be treated with shrinkage prevention to ensure the size of the fabric.

The disadvantage is that it is not easy to dry.

Adding modal to the ingredients of socks can make the socks feel softer and more comfortable.

Its luster, softness, moisture absorption, dyeing, and durability are all better than pure cotton products.

[Nylon] Synthetic fiber, like polyester, is often used to cover elastic fibers to become a stretcher.

Sometimes it is also used as a veil (nylon 100%), with excellent wear resistance.

It ranks first among common textile fibers, but it does not absorb sweat and smells feet.

If it is only used for weaving, it will basically not affect the performance of the socks themselves.

Nylon has similar properties to nylon, is strong and wear-resistant, and is the most wear-resistant and strongest type of synthetic fiber.

It is very light and has good elasticity. Adding nylon to socks can maintain high-strength elasticity.

[Spandex] Synthetic fiber, that is, the stretcher core, has the characteristics of high elongation and high elasticity,

It also has better acid resistance, alkali resistance, light resistance, wear resistance and other qualities.

[Polypropylene] Polypropylene is a name with Chinese characteristics. In fact, it should be called polypropylene fiber, so it is named polypropylene.

The biggest feature of polypropylene is its light texture,

but its own hygroscopicity is very weak and almost does not absorb moisture, so the moisture regain is close to zero.

However, its wicking effect is quite strong, and it can transfer water vapor through the fibers in the fabric.

This also means that socks containing polypropylene components have a very strong perspiration function.

Because polypropylene is very strong, wear-resistant and stretch-resistant, it is often seen in sports socks.

[Rabbit hair] The fiber is soft, fluffy, warm and has good moisture absorption capacity,

but the strength is low, and most of them are blended.

The commonly used rabbit hair content ratio is 70% rabbit hair and 30% nylon.

[Acrylic cotton] belongs to blended yarn (usually blending can complement the shortcomings of the two raw materials).

The commonly used acrylic cotton content ratio is 30% acrylic and 70% cotton.

It feels full, is more wear-resistant than cotton, has bright colors, and is evenly dry. It also has the function of absorbing sweat and deodorizing like cotton.

Acrylic is known as artificial wool.

It has the advantages of softness, bulkiness, not easy to dye, bright colors, light resistance, antibacterial, and not afraid of insects.

Polyester] Compared with natural fibers, polyester has good elasticity and fluffiness, and the socks woven from it are relatively light.

In the past, people often wore a bright shirt to enjoy its lightness.

However, polyester has low moisture content, poor air permeability, poor dyeability, easy pilling, and easy staining.

[Nylon] Nylon is the first synthetic fiber in the world.

The emergence of nylon socks in China stems from the diversification of China's textile industry from the pure cotton era.

Nylon socks have attracted men, women, young and old all over China because of their easy washing and drying, durability, good elasticity, and variety of colors.

However, because nylon socks have poor air permeability,

they have been gradually replaced by silk socks and acrylic-cotton blended socks since the late 1980s.

Of course, choosing good socks, just understanding the composition of the socks is only a small part of it.

Socks of different styles, seasons, and designs will have different lengths, thicknesses, textures, and feel due to differences in style, materials, and workmanship. This is normal.

The design of socks, production process, weaving method, workmanship, etc. are also the main reference standards for good socks.
