How to choose a good pair of socks

As an "accessory" that accompanies your feet every day, a pair of good socks can really affect your mood. "To see a man's taste, look at his socks." There is nothing better than this. To judge the quality of a pair of socks, you can refer to the following aspects: 1. Material: The material plays a big role in determining whether a pair ofsocks is good or not.

When you choose socks, don't look at the fancy slogans in the advertisements, just turn to the back and look at the ingredient label. On the ingredient label, you may see some professional terms:

Main ingredients: Common ones on the market include "cotton", "bamboo fiber", "hemp fiber", various animal hair fibers such as "wool", "rabbit hair", etc. In theory, the higher the main ingredient of the socks, the higher the cost and the more comfortable they are to wear;
"Polyester fiber" is also known as "polyester", and there are also "nylon" or "nylon": synthetic fibers, used to enhance the wear resistance of socks, generally with a content of 15%-20%;

"Elastic fiber" is also known as "spandex", and there are also high-end "Lycra": elastic fibers, used to increase the elasticity of socks, generally with a content of 3%-8%. There is no doubt that this little bit can make the socks very elastic.

The most common socks on the market are socks made of cotton yarn, which is the most traditional raw material and the most time-tested raw material. According to the different yarn counts and textile processes, they are divided into "combed cotton" and "combed cotton". If combed cotton is not specifically stated on the ingredient label, it is carded cotton. "Combing" here refers to a textile process, which is to use a specific machine to clean the impurities in the cotton yarn and then sort it to form the yarn. Therefore, combed cotton socks are more textured and durable than ordinary cotton socks, and of course the price will be higher. Many people like pure cotton socks. In fact, it is impossible to buy 100% cotton socks on the market, because cotton yarn itself has no elasticity. Socks made of 100% cotton yarn have no elasticity, just like a piece of cloth, which is uncomfortable to wear and not wear-resistant. It is necessary to add the "polyester fiber" and "elastic fiber" mentioned above to increase wear resistance and elasticity. Generally speaking, we can consider cotton socks with a content of more than 85% as "pure cotton" socks;

Cotton yarn is the oldest material, but it does not mean that cotton socks have no shortcomings. Cotton fibers are easy to deform and harden after multiple washings, which is also the fundamental reason why socks are easy to shrink and harden after washing. In response to this shortcoming, the new fibers that are popular in the market recently include "bamboo fiber" and "hemp fiber", each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages.
"Bamboo fiber" is the material I personally recommend for socks, and it is also the material used by my "Men's Socks" brand in spring, autumn and summer business socks. Because it is a new fiber, bamboo fiber socks on the market are generally more expensive than cotton socks. Bamboo fiber should essentially be called "bamboo pulp fiber", which is a kind of fiber extracted after bamboo pulping. Compared with cotton yarn, bamboo fiber feels better, has better air permeability and water absorption, and will not become hard after washing. Bamboo fiber also has disadvantages. One is that it is not as wear-resistant as cotton socks, which can be appropriately avoided by improving the weaving process; the second is that after friction, the pilling phenomenon is more serious.

Generally, we need to choose a pair of good "business socks" for work wear.
Business socks require the surface to be mainly solid color. Don't wear white socks with formal clothes. It's best not to have patterns. The main fiber content should be above 85%.

The length of the socks is about 15cm~20cm. European and American countries have higher requirements for business socks. Chinese people are generally not used to socks that are too long. However, please note that the length of the socks should not expose the calf hair when crossing your legs, otherwise it is a manifestation of lack of etiquette.

Is the ingredient label clearly written? Is there an implementation standard? Is there a unified product barcode stipulated by the country: Generally, socks with national standard product barcodes (which can be verified by scanning with software such as "Wochacha") will not have false or random ingredients. If this is found out, you will be fined. If a pair of socks does not even have ingredients and barcodes, you should be careful.

Is the toe part of the socks hand-sewn: After the socks are put on and off the socks machine, they are a tubular structure. The toe part of the socks needs to be sewn into a pocket shape with thread, and the prototype of the socks is out. There are two ways to sew the ends of socks in the industry, "manually aligned ends" and "machine sewing ends". The former is an ancient method that relies purely on manual alignment of each stitch of the socks, and then pulls off the excess thread ends. After sewing, there is basically no trace of sewing, and the two layers of cloth have no overlap. They are butt-jointed and connected into one piece, which will be more comfortable to wear. The latter is like a sewing machine, which combines two pieces of cloth together and sews them together with a thread in the middle. To determine whether a pair of socks is hand-sewn, just touch the sewing part of the socks with your hand. If there is a protruding stem, it is a machine sewing end, otherwise it is a manual sewing end.

The reason for mentioning this detail is that the cost of labor is getting higher and higher now. The manual cost of sewing the ends of a pair of socks is about 30 cents, and the manual alignment of the ends requires workers to have high eyesight. People over a certain age with poor eyesight cannot do this job. Those who are willing to sew the ends by hand are basically mid-to-high-end socks. "Men's Socks" has always said that our socks are all hand-sewn by virgins, and it is not all nonsense.
